1938 el sueño de una capital moderna
Work detail
Founded by Don Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada in 1538 in the beautiful Valle de los Alcázares, a town with the name of Santafé de Bogotá was to become the capital of the kingdom and the Viceroyalty of New Granada, and later of the Republic of Colombia. On the occasion of the 4th centenary in 1938, an official map of the city was made, based on the first flights equipped for taking aerial photographs, bills and coins were issued and medals were cast that recalled the four centuries of existence of the city. In 2018 and as part of the commemoration of the 480th anniversary of the capital, the District Institute of Cultural Heritage and the Museum of Bogotá organized an exhibition to reflect on how such an important event in the history of a city was celebrated.
