Historical novel set in early Imperial Rome. Hermogenes, a young Alexandrian Greek, goes to Rome to reclaim monies owed to his family when his father dies at sea. Although he is a Roman citizen, he must struggle against prejudice to uphold his honour, while becoming entangled with political plots and a female gladiator.
