Major biographic and critical study of artist Vlady (b. Russia 1920, immigrated to Mexico - d. 2005), that includes his own writings and texts by fellow artists and art historians such as Régis Debray, Arnold Belkin, Carlos Monsivais, Edgar Morin, Ernst Neizvestny. Valdy was a permanent rebel and a spiritual artist who distanced himself from the 3 great Mexican muralists (Rivera, Siqueiros, Orozco). He, along with his friends, Alberto Fironella and Héctor Xavier signaled the beginning of the generation of "La Ruptura". They broke the hold of the muralists, eventually creating his own unique massive mural. Vlady met Rothko in New York and was deeply impressed which led him to "pure" color. He rejected all of the "isms" creating in his paintings, drawings and prints in his own unique style.
