This academic work examines the intersection of traditional healing practices and public health policy in South Africa. Drawing on medical anthropology, it explores how indigenous approaches to illness and wellness interact with—and are shaped by—state-led health initiatives. The book analyzes the political dimensions of healthcare delivery, highlighting tensions between biomedical frameworks and culturally rooted therapeutic systems.
