Les études néo-latines s?aventurent rarement au-delà du XVIIIe siècle, comme si la production latine avait alors cessé de présenter une quelconque pertinence sociale. L?ouvrage explore une voie nouvelle en interrogeant l?importance et la pertinence du latin et de la littérature néo-latine pour le XIXe siècle. Il étudie l?œuvre de Jean Dominique Fuss, poète néo-latin originaire de Düren et professeur à l?université de Liège dès 1817, qui a consacré sa vie à défendre sa langue première d?écriture.
