'विराणी' म्हणजे विरहातील स्पंदनांची कहाणी, आर्त उत्कट स्वरभावनेची गर्भस्वर तराणी. जगात सुदृढ रुपात जगणारी सगळी नाती दिसतात. नावारूपाला येतात, सन्मान पावतात. मात्र समाज, रुढी, जात-पात-धर्म, श्रीमंत-गरीब भेद या सामाजिक दूषित प्रवाहात गुदमरलेली, अर्धमृत झालेली, काळाच्या आड गेलेली, नाव नसलेली नाती; संवेदनशील मनातून मिटतच नाहीत. हृदयाच्या खोल कुपीत बिचारी मुशी मारून दडून बसतात. प्रेम-संजीवक तत्त्वच आहे माणसाचं. म्हणूनच प्रेम मनातून विरतही नाही सरतही नाही. याच आशयाची किशोर कवठे यांची 'विराणी' ही दीर्घ कविता अभिजात मराठी काव्य परंपरेचे पाठबळ घेऊन काव्यविश्वात स्वतंत्र आणि समर्थ स्थान निर्माण करणारी ठरते. आयुष्यातली भावनिक तडजोड आणि एका विरहिणीच्या आठवणींचं मनातलं चांदणं, अशा व्यक्त-अव्यक्त भावविश्वाचा समांतर प्रवास भावविभोर करतो. The poor ones hide in the deep recesses of the heart. Love is the life-giving principle of man. That is why love neither fades nor fades from the mind. Kishore Kavathe's long poem 'Virani' with this content creates an independent and capable place in the world of poetry with the support of the classical Marathi poetry tradition. The emotional compromise in life and the moonlight in the mind of a separated woman's memories, such a parallel journey of expressed and unexpressed emotions is thrilling.
