"Postmodern Metanarratives investigates the relationship between cinema and literature. Torres Cruz studies the history of Blade Runner and examines Scott's cyberpunk narrative by establishing a link between tradition and the (post)modern in a collage of several literary texts. The modern hero is confronted with the epic hero through the biblical epic works of Dante, Milton and Blake, and the film's references to Sophocles' Oedipus Rex and Hoffman's The Sandman are analyzed from a psychoanalytical perspective. The (post)modern references in the film are compared to works of Dick, Burroughs, Nourse and Huxley, and to the literary sequels of Scott's film in Jeter's novels. The book also explores how Blade Runner reflects the ubiquitous power of media in postmodern society and deconstructs the fake/real and original/copy dualities"--Page [4] of cover.
