Kathy Etchingham ran away from home, not for the first time, when she was sixteen. Escaping from a miserable and disturbed childhood, she landed in London in the centre of the swinging sixties and among a clique of musicians who were in the process of changing the world. Friends included Brian Jones, Keith Moon, Pete Townshend, Lennon and McCartney, Eric Burdon, Chas Chandler, Georgie Fame, Eric Clapton and many more. These people lived together, played together, ate together, drank together, did drugs together and, occasionally, slept together. In 1966 Chas Chandler brought Jimi Hendrix to London. Jimi and Kathy met on the day he arrived and their relationship as lovers lasted for almost three years, during which time Jimi became acclaimed as one of the greatest and most original guitarists in the world. But as the trappings of fame and wealth were heaped upon him, darker forces came into play. Drugs clouded his mind, men in suits manipulated his finances and his life with Kathy became cluttered with fantasists, dopeheads and hangers-on. He and Kathy separated. Jimi's death the following year epitomized the end of the sixties' dream. Kathy left the music scene, married, had two sons and put her former life behind her. But nearly twenty years after Hendrix's death, the past came back to haunt her. Kathy was dragged into a series of court cases to protect friends and herself. It ended in more tragedy. In this book Kathy sets the record straight about her life with the rock legend, and offers a new theory of what actually happened the night Hendrix died.
