Proposals for a Square is a collaborative project between artists Fritz Haeg (United States, 1969) and Nils Norman (United Kingdom, 1966). This temporary installation created in the plaza of the Museum Jumex was commissioned as part of the series a Agora: un anteproyecto para la utopi a" (Agora: a blueprint for utopia), invites the public to imagine and participate in an alternative vision of the museum's square. This project is inspired by the outdoor spaces of Mexico City, integrating some informal uses of open spaces. The project has areas to sit and sleep, a kiosk, a circle to make bonfires, some steps and outdoor spaces that invite contemplation, meeting, rest and play. The design of Haeg and Norman for the museum square were based on the principles of the book "A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction (1977) by Christopher Alexander. Of the 253 patterns published in the book, Norman and Haeg chose 17 to be "executed" in the Jumex Museum square.
