I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not
Work detail
An authorized look at Chevy Chase's life and career. The main problem with the book is that steps into the area of hagiography--a common problem of the authorized biography. The revelations about Chase's abusive mother and stepfather are interesting. And surely this abuse plays a role in Chase's later personality and issues. However, the author is an apologist for Chase. There is no evenhanded review of some of Chase's most obnoxious incidents--and the book pre-dates Community by at least a decade. Further, the author has a tendency to blame everyone but Chase for everything that befalls him. This is an okay read for a fan of early SNL and Chase's subsequent film work. It is not the critical biography that Chase will someday receive.
