Hans Abelman (1940) draws and paints, makes graphic work, sculptures, monumental art and installations with found objects. For many years he was also in charge of art in the public space in the city and of the sculpture collection on the Westersingel in Rotterdam. His studio with his archive is located in the Waalhaven in Rotterdam, in an office of 3 x 4 meters in the construction company Dick van Campenhout. He always continued to draw on all the projects that Abelman realized in the various Rotterdam neighbourhoods. His Wunderkammer in the Waalhaven is therefore a repository full of portraits, art and documents that together tell the story of forty years of work on art in the city. Verhalenhuis Belvédère invited Abelman to occupy a space on the third floor as an artist-in-residence for a year, the former home of the artist couple Wally Elenbaas and Esther Hartog, with the aim of making his heritage visible and preserving it for the future. It was precisely during that period that the Netherlands went into lockdown due to the outbreak of the infectious disease COVID-19, which has been recognized as a pandemic since March 11, 2020 Hans Abelman (1940) tekent en schildert, maakt grafisch werk, beelden, monumentale kunst en installaties met gevonden voorwerpen. Ook was hij gedurende vele jaren baas van de kunst in de openbare ruimte in de stad en van de beeldencollectie op de Rotterdamse Westersingel. Zijn atelier met zijn archief bevindt zich in de Rotterdamse Waalhaven, in een werkkamer van 3 x 4 meter in het constructiebedrijf Dick van Campenhout. Bij alle projecten die Abelman in de verschillende Rotterdamse wijken realiseerde, bleef hij altijd tekenen. Zijn Wunderkammer in de Waalhaven is dan ook een bewaarplaats vol met portretten, kunst en documenten die samen het verhaal vertellen van veertig jaar werken aan kunst in de stad. Verhalenhuis Belvédère nodigde Abelman uit om een jaar lang als artist-in-residence een ruimte op de derde verdieping te betrekken, de voormalige woning van het kunstenaarsechtpaar Wally Elenbaas en Esther Hartog, met als doel zijn erfgoed zichtbaar te maken en te bewaren voor de toekomst. Juist in die periode ging Nederland in lockdown vanwege de uitbraak van de infectieziekte COVID-19 die sinds 11 maart 2020 als pandemie wordt erkend
