The author traces the origins of youth in the Roaring Twenties as a distinct form of culture formed around jazz music and new ideologies. It was interrupted by World War II and the Great Depression but revived by the rock and roll of the 1950s, which gave it its energy and formed the basis from which all subsequent movements took their cue, from the counterculture to the rap movements. This book demonstrates how many political and social changes have resulted from the different youth movements over the course of the twentieth century. The author makes the compelling argument that with a radical shift in technology, youth culture is now coming to an end.
