Sunlight on the River
Work detail
'Life was not being particularly easy for Delia Hayling. Her mother had just died and the landlord wanted the house - and there were Delia's two young sisters to be considered as well as herself. It was to provide them with a home that Delia left her office job and took a post as housekeeper to the difficult and rather demanding Mrs. Sudbury - and it didn't help to lighten Delia's burden that Simon Havant, who after all hardly knew her and had no business to interfere at all, told her uncompromisingly that she was wasting her time, making a doormat of herself, and ought to make her sisters stand on their own feet and make lives for themselves. Delia was indignant - but was it just possible that Simon might be right?'
