Collier, as the councilor of the Camden Society had been approached in January 1848 by Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan, Sixth Baronet Trevelyan of Nettlecombe (1797-1879), who himself was an early member of the Society. This literary engagement, which Collier had likely committed to because Sir Walter’s cousin Sir Charles had employed his son, turned out to be more difficult and protracted than anyone had anticipated. Eventually, Collier would finish a continuation in 1863 (Part II, see Bib# 4117190/Fr# 1012 in this collection) and the cousins Sir Walter and Sir Charles Trevelyan would bring the series to a conclusion with their edition published in 1872 (see Bib# 4117335 /Fr# 1177).
