In 1944 the composer Paul von Klenau (1883-1946) recorded his memories with the help of a secretary. Klenau spent most of his adult life in Germany and Austria, where he worked as a composer and conductor. As a composer, he had acquired a highly differentiated late-romantic and modern style, which he developed from the years around 1930 using twelve-tone technology.0 cultural personalities, including Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg, Hans Pfitzner, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Stefan George, Rainer Maria Rilke and Albert Schweitzer. His attitude to Danish cultural life was characterized by a persistent criticism of its overly limited horizon, which is why in the 1920s he established the Danish Philharmonic Society, where a number of the newest international orchestral works of the time were erected in Copenhagen.
