Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is Finland's internationally best-known architect and designer. The exhibition catalogue 'Art and the modern form' examines his extensive personal connections, the interplay between various forms of art in his work, and the collaboration between Aalto and his wife, Aino Aalto, who as designers strove to create a new aesthetic for everyday life. The book also showcases art exhibitions organised by Artek - founded by Aaltos, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl in 1935 - and the artworks that were purchased from these exhibitions by Ateneum Art Museum. The most prominent artists featured therein included Hans Arp,László Moholy-Nagy, Fernand Léger and Alexander Calder.00Exhibition: Finnish National Gallery / Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki, Finland (11.05.-24.09.2017).
