In this work, often known as The Antiquities of Annius, Annius of Viterbo (c.1432–1502), an Italian Dominican friar, published alleged writings and fragments of several pre-Christian Greek and Latin profane authors, destined to throw an entirely new light on ancient history. The editio princeps of Annius's forgeries was printed by Eucharius Silber in Rome in 1498 (Bib# 4102734/Fr# 185 in this collection). The most usable editions were edited by Josse Bade (Jodocus Badius) and published by the press of Jean Petit at Paris, in 1512 and again in 1515; they are identical to the smallest detail.
