In a French village at the foot of the Pyrenees lived a strange, lonely child who never grew up. Seeing her stunted body people called her feeble-minded, but she was far from being that. Shunned by others, Marie Ollacery went her solitary way with contempt in her heart; and, through the medium of her distorted intelligence, saw with frightening clarity the weaknesses and hypocrisy of all around her. Later Marie is transformed, but the seeming miracle does not rob her story of its freshness nor its charm.
